Who will draw the line, and who will follow the Pied Piper to wallow in the meditional muck on the other side of this bridge? If all goes according to his plan, and the plan of his partners – the whole world will follow this hypnotizing flute tune.
In the following video, Rick Warren’s chosen doctor for Saddleback’s new ‘Daniel Plan,’ Dr. Mehmet Oz teaches how to overcome stress build-up by practicing Transcendental Meditation. Watch to the end to hear him introduce and recommend the David Lynch Foundation.
Last year the David Lynch Foundation for consciousness based education and world peace (www.davidlynchfoundation.org) expanded their global outreach to bring the Transcendental Meditation technique to inner-city students, veterans with PTSD, indigenous peoples, the homeless, and prisoners (see http://www.dlfprojects.org). The following two-minute video features photographs of children meditating in DLF-funded schools all over the world:

This is how David Lynch became involved in meditation:
David Lynch – Meditation
Is this all part of Rick Warren’s Purpose Driven Peace Plan? By partnering with these philosophies, Saddleback’s ‘Daniel Plan’ is a brazen, blasphemous insult to the Daniel of the Bible. The real Daniel’s “health plan” did not include compromise and participation in the religion of Babylon into which he was immersed – instead, he and his friends stood alone on their convictions in the strength of God against the religious system of Babylon.
Meanwhile, as the pied piper of purpose takes the duped sheep over the bridge to the hypnotic heartland of spiritual Babylon, who will dare to be a Daniel and stand against this deceptive plan?

Your rant is completely off-base and shows your prediliction to rail against anything Rick Warren suggests.
1. Oz is just one of the doctors participating in the Daniel Plan. Drs Daniel Amen (a Christian) and John Hymen (a Jew) make up the three legs of the program. Dr Oz made no, read that- zero, nada, zilch, religious statements or claims. Oz’s philosoply is irrelevant to the program. He’s a medical consultant/partner to the project, no more, no less. It would appear that unless a physician passes your sactimonious religious muster he would not be allowed to peform life saving surgery on you.
2. The program is about getting healthy. Rick is in charge of the spiritual issues, the doctors are educating on the health issues (proper eating habits, avoiding processed foods, etc.).
3. The program apparently a quasi-secular function in that the doctors appear to be hoping to use the Saddleback congregation as a study to see the effects of diet change, behavior on a large church group.
Finguy,
1. Brilliant. An ecumenical three legged program to fit with the three legged stool concept. How very fitting!
If pastor Warren personally chooses to lose weight and become physically fit, that’s his right. But as a pastor of the church, it is not his biblical role to use this as a platform to bring non-Christians in to lead his church in a health and wellness program (in the name of the prophet Daniel). You cannot say that Dr. Oz’s ‘philosophy’ (TM, Reiki and Islam) is irrelevant because Christian pastors have a biblical responsibility to shepherd their sheep, and as overseers of their flock accountable to God, the philosophy of who they bring in IS very important.
2. Yes, pastor Warren is indeed charge of the spiritual issues – a pastor/shepherd is responsible for the spiritual feeding and protection of his flock. That means feeding them from the Word of God and guarding them from those who do not.
3. If Warren’s sheep want to volunteer as laboratory Guinea pigs that’s their prerogative.
Biblically, what is a pastor’s role?
1 Peter 5:2 says to shepherd the flock. As shepherd, his responsibility includes preaching, teaching, discipling all the sheep that the Lord puts in his care. Acts 20 says overseers are to feed the church of God which He purchased with His own blood (v. 28), and to be on guard for the flock. The pastor’s role is also protecting the church from false teachers and false teaching. (Acts 20:28-31 and Titus 1:9)
As preacher, the highest calling on earth is to preach the Word of God. Paul said, “Woe is me if I do not preach the gospel” (1 Cor. 9:16), and Paul told Timothy to “Do the work of an evangelist” (2 Tim. 4:5).
As teacher, church leaders are to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, until we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God (Ephesians 4:11-13). Acts 6:4 says church leaders need to devote themselves to prayer and the ministry of the Word and resolve doctrinal issues Acts 15:6.
Besides instructing his church in God’s Word (teaching the bride about her groom as revealed to us in the Bible), the pastor’s responsibility is also to honor God, and to be an example to the flock, again, 1 Peter 5:1-2. How is a pastor an example to his flock by partnering unequally with those who practice TM (based on Hinduism), or follow Emanuel Swedenborg? “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3)
Even so, the Lord is merciful – to a point.
“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee” – Hosea 4:6a
*By the way, Saddleback participants are now welcomed at Dr. Hyman’s website, where they will read this greeting:
One of those options they will find is called The UltraMind Solution, where one of the suggestions in Key 7 (Calm Your Mind) is that because stress destroys our brains, try Yoga breathing, Yoga or meditation to calm your mind (more in chapter 12). Dr. Hyman recently taught with Buddhist Richard Reoch (president of Shambhala) here:
So as you can see, the issue is not that these doctors will necessarily be sharing their philosophies inside Saddleback’s walls, but the inevitable fact is that the Saddleback sheep will now be introduced to the teachings of these doctors out of curiosity, unless Rick Warren warns them not to, which he still has time to do. A good shepherd’s ‘purpose’ is to lay down his life for the sheep, not introduce them to dangers.
You guys all ought to get a life. Don’t you have anything better to do? Why don’t you spend time loving and serving people and show them Jesus by the ways you live instead of complaining about what everyone is doing. What a bunch of hypocrites. Geez, I get so sick of you all!!!
1. A three-legged stool is an appropriate analogy for a number of practical reasons, despite your supercilious response. Get over yourself.
2. A pastor, along with teaching and “sheparding his flock” should also provide a behavioral example. I guess in your hypocritical mind as long as you read scripture you can ignore living it. Your attitudes are very remindful of the Pharisees’. Rick notes that we should take care of our bodies as a form of worship and thanks because:
a. They are a gift from God
b. The Holy Spirit dwells in them
c. Jesus died so we can live in them and they can be glorified in Heaven.
The above being the case, are we not to be good stewards of our bodies? Are you denying that what Rick is saying is correct?
If I am sick and go to the doctor, I am more concerned about his competence than his theology. Oz, Amen, and Hymen’s contributions are medical, not theological so their inclusion in the program is appropriate. Many members of Saddleback are physicians who will be participating in the program at the small group/personal leve.
On a seperate note, your complaint about Rick promoting transendental meditation is, again, off-base because of your patent hatred for the man. Meditation is a highly biblical concept. Rick’s position is that meditation is important….we are to meditate on God and his Word. It is often times called “Spending Quiet Time”. If you DON’T meditate you should be concerned.
You should really try to have an open mind. I will agree that Rick sometimes contorts a verse here and there to make his point, but I don’t know a pastor, minister, preacher who, at times, doesn’t.
Finguy,
My apologies for the sarcasm, but the 3 legged concept has nothing to do with my self and everything to do with Mr. Drucker. It’s so cliche (and unbiblical), and typical of purpose driven, it’s nauseating.
A pastor is to be an example in holiness and uncompromising obedience to God’s Word, like Daniel.
re: our bodies:
Regardless of what shape our bodies our in, they will be resurrected. We are to be good stewards of more than just our bodies. Paul, whose body got beaten up and stoned, said that bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come (1 Timothy 4:8).
As previously mentioned, that is their right and prerogative, but it has nothing to do with the role of the church, which is to be a light to the world for the glory of God, equipping the saints so they in turn can spread the gospel to save the lost, until the bride groom returns.
Rick Warren is partnering with an unbeliever who practices TM and Reiki. There have been other times where he actually has promoted different types of meditation (contemplative), but the issue here is not that he is promoting TM, but that he is straying from his shepherding role by putting in a co-leadership position one who practices TM, thus indirectly opening the door for the sheep in his care to further pursue TM, for which he will be accountable to God alone.
This blogger does not hate pastor Warren, but is calling the sheep to examine everything, out of love for the church.
Biblical meditation involves filling your mind with scripture, thinking on it, digesting it. Not repeating a mantra to empty the mind of thought in order to achieve relaxation and altered states of consciousness in order to reduce stress as in Dr. Oz’s case, and even in contemplative prayer which Warren does promote.
We do need to open our minds to Scripture, and only the Holy Spirit can reveal the truths in the Bible to us. [Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, Luke 24:25] The Bible says quite a lot about the mind. We as Christians are to have the mind of Christ, and be of one mind in Him, lest we be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3). Rather than open our minds to any kind of meditation, our minds needs to be guarded. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus (Phil 4:7).
It sad that you don’t know any godly pastors, ministers or preachers who don’t twist God’s Word, because there are still some good ones to be found if you will look for them.

Christian Hype, Thoughts on Saddleback’s Fitness Plan

What Is Rick Warren Thinking?
http://www.logosapologia.org/?p=1435
I attend Saddleback Church once or twice a month with my daughter and son-in-law, who are members and embrace all that Rick Warren advocates. Last year he introduced another weight loss program complete with book, small group plan, and individual workbook. All of which he encouraged his congregation to purchase. Many of which did, as did I. Rick Warren claimed he was going to use these tools to lose weight and become a “hunk of burning love.” After a month or so, nothing more was said about this program and Rick Warren looks the same, as do I.
This whole approach to healthy living is not new. The Seventh Day Adventist have used it as a foundation to their church since inception in the late 1800s. They are considered a cult.
I understand the concern behind this whole movement, but I question that it is the proper subject matter for the pulpit – at least to the degree it is at Saddleback.
I would like to find a church that teaches the Bible (not taking verses out of context to fit the subject) and where I can go and worship. That’s all.
Debbie,
Thanks for your comment. You might try looking here or here for a more biblical alternative.
Re. Daniel Plan
There should be significant concern over marketing a program under the name of this revered prophet.
As mentioned earlier Daniel opposed the imposition of idolatry he also refused the king’s meat so as not to be defiled, apparently the king’s meat and wine were unclean.
But this is a weight loss marketing plan and Daniel as we know refused meat and ate only vegetables, drank only water instead of wine because of the law. Furthermore, how strange they should use Daniel as a weight loss example.
Daniel 1:15 At the end of ten days their appearance seemed better and they were FATTER than all the youths who had been eating the king’s choice food. (NAS)
Exactly. Thank you.
Inasmuch as Pastor Rick Warren had shown strong Christian values. This is one grey area in his personal convictions that must be addressed. His gay rights statements in the past is another. Please pray that he will be more clear about these things. The issue is the opinion of God vs someone else’s opinion including ours. Let’s all inquire of God.
Good advice.
Thank you all for your exposes on Rick Warren. I have written two books exposing his false teachings and agree.
We have created a new website exposing him:
