Sweden bans mention of Jesus at kids’ Advent services

Head teachers in Sweden have been told they can take pupils to Christmas services in church – but Jesus cannot be mentioned.

Advent services for children are part of the curriculum, but religious content has been ruled out by education officials.

They said “prayer, blessings or declarations of faith” are all banned, yesterday’s Metro newspaper reported.

Several months ago Saddleback Church began offering a Holy Yoga class.

Worship Center – Rancho Capistrano
A Rancho Capistrano Campus Event
Come Join us for Holy Yoga Tuesday Mornings 9:00 to 10:00 in our Worship Center
Holy Yoga is co-ed and offers the same physical and strengthening benefits as yoga BUT it is done with scripture, prayer, and worship music. These classes are great for the release of tension, core strengthening, weight loss, lowering blood pressure, and better posture. You do not need to go to church here to take this class. In fact this is a great way to invite someone new! The cost for Holy Yoga is FREE!! Bring a yoga mat, your towel and water bottle!

Holy Yoga is a worship experience combining the physical benefits of world class yoga with an intentional dedication to God through prayer, scripture, and contemporary Christian music. We breathe in His goodness and grace…and exhale tension and stress. It is coed, noncompetitive, and Christ honoring in fellowship. Come join us…!

About two months from now another muddy mixture of truth and error will be taking place in Edmonton, Alberta at Break Forth Canada 2013. Speakers include Francis Chan, Kay Arthur, John Ortberg, Mark Buchanan, Brad Jersak, Leonard Sweet, and Gary Thomas.

Many of these speakers teach a muddy mix of truth and contemplative spirituality. For example, John Ortberg, the author of the Monvee book, The Me I Want to Be, is a key player in the contemplative spirituality movement. He has been strongly influenced by the spirituality endorsed by contemplative mystics (see review of The Life You’ve Always Wanted). Canadian pastor Mark Buchanan has written several contemplative books as well as the foreword to Crafting a Rule of Life: An Invitation to the Well-Ordered Way By Stephen A. Macchia (a contemporary approach to St. Benedict’s Rule endorsed by many well known contemplative authors). Although Buchanan does claim to use biblical spiritual discipline sources it is a concern when he also quotes Henri Nouwen, Brother Lawrence, Philip Yancey, upholds Mother Theresa and portrays Richard Foster as an expert on spiritual disciplines. Brad Jersak, another Canadian author, teaches a combination of visualization and listening prayer (see previous posts SHOULD CHRISTIANS EXPECT TO HEAR GOD’S VOICE? and Visualizing ourselves into the Throne Room of Heaven?). This will not be the first Breakforth Canada appearance for Jersak, as with speakers Gary Thomas and Leonard Sweet (see The Berean Library’s page on Sweet’s books).

May the truth of God’s Word speak loudly, breaking the bridge of compromise and clearly separating the purity of the gospel from the spiritual deception which has already clouded the hearts and minds of so many believers today.

Franklin Graham Was ‘Shocked’ to Find Mormonism Is a Cult Article on BGEA Site

A month after the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association removed an article describing Mormonism as a “cult” from its website, ministry head Franklin Graham clarified on Wednesday that he was unaware of the article’s existence.

The evangelist told CNN that he did not write the article and that he was “shocked” to find the article on the BGEA website.

Atheists Ask Obama to Ditch ‘So Help Me God,’ Bible in Presidential Oath

President Barack Obama will be taking the oath of office for the second time on Jan. 21, 2013. And atheists want him to do so without mentioning “God” and without a Bible.

The Freedom From Religion Foundation sent Obama a letter following his re-election, asking him to reject the way “this country politicizes religion.”

This is one thing Mike Bickle of IHOP is not going to be debating in front of the young people attending this year’s annual Onething Conference where Archbishop Joseph Naumann and others will be celebrating the Mass:

Former Protestants, now Catholic converts, speaking at IHOP-KC Onething 2012

An appalling and horrible thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely, And the priests rule on their own authority: And My people love it so. But what will you do at the end? (Jeremiah 5:30)

Mike Bickle of IHOP-KC has decided to partner with the Catholics for this year’s annual Onething Conference, and the Catholics are understandably ecstatic. Mike Bickle has provided a great opportunity to reach young people with the Catholic message. Strategically, the Catholics have selected ex-Protestants Dr. Scott Hahn and Dr. John Bergsma to speak at Onething. [1] Archbishop Joseph Naumann and others will be celebrating Masses. [2] Unfortunately, nothing on the IHOP-KC Onething site reveals anthing about Catholic participation.
