Studying evolution is like following cosmic breadcrumbs home to God. Only by looking through evolutionary eyes can we see our way out of the current global integrity crisis that is destroying economies and ecosystems around the world.

The Advent of Evolutionary Christianity is a group of “Christian” leaders who are having a “groundbreaking” dialogue on their evolutionary worldviews. Some of the names include Richard Rohr, Matthew Fox, emerging church leaders Doug Pagitt and Spencer Burke, as well as lesser known names such as Gretta Vosper (a progressive Christian who advocates that the Bible is not the authoritative word of God), Ian Lawton (a minister of a church that recently made national headlines for their decision to remove the cross), Paul Smith (a pastor who was kicked out of the Southern Baptist Convention for blessing gay and lesbian unions), as well as a few Catholic nuns, and a few other interesting pagans, philosophers and researchers who have nothing to do with authentic Christianity, but are part of the conversation nonetheless.

In the midst of this motley crew of evolutionary spirituality we find none other than Brian McLaren, who says that Evolutionary Christianity has ‘freed’ him:

Evolutionary Christianity has ‘freed me’, says Brian McLaren

Christians are in “deep denial” over the continuous evolution of the Christian faith which allows the work of Charles Darwin to be celebrated and not feared, emerging church leader Brian McLaren has said.

McLaren, who argued for an overhaul of the Christian faith in his 2010 book A New Kind of Christianity, joined a recent panel discussion that addressed the evolution of the church and the Christian identity in postmodern or “post-postmodern” times.

The telecast discussion is part of “The Advent of Evolutionary Christianity,” a project that seeks to bring together a diverse panel of “evolution-celebrating” Christians who don’t believe one has to settle on either Jesus or Darwin. Michael Dowd, author of Thank God for Evolution, is host and moderator of the series.

Once again we are watching the evolution of those in the so called emerging church as they exchange the truth for a lie and move towards the muddy pond of deception. Not surprisingly, this evolutionary Christian swamp water smells a lot like the spiritual mud behind Transhumanism.

According to Dorothy Deasy, a Christian Transhumanist who accepts the Darwinian model, a new way is needed.

“It is vital for spiritual Transhumanists to have a voice, to be the Third Way between fundamentalism and creation without God [referring to atheism]. We are living in times when giving into either-or-thinking, either science or spirituality, can have dangerous social consequences. One suggestion is to encourage faith communities to evolve their perceptions of God, and to re-embrace the sacred…”

Deasy is also quoted as saying (regarding the importance of an evolving theology and an emerging spirituality):

“The role of spiritual guides is to replace dogma with questioning, to promote seekers to examine their belief systems and ask larger questions.”

Carl Teichrib writes that “the spirituality of transhumanism could be considered a “Next-Gen Religion,” and it must be demonstrated as a “cool” religion that unifies humanity.” His article explains that Transhumanism is based on the idea that evolution is true. The ultimate goal is the ascension of humanity, society must change, and spirituality must play a role. Although this will involve bio-technology, the emergence of a global set of core values, based on universalism, will emerge to guide religious acceptance toward the goal.

Does this sound familiar? Is this what we are seeing here? Is it any coincidence that McLaren and friends are combining the same evolving theology and emerging spirituality as the Transhumanism movement? At any rate, this is definitely NOT Christianity.

This topic deserves more research, but the good thing about these emerging conversations and dialogues is that the more false teachers talk, the more they reveal what is in their hearts, thereby actually make it easier for Christians to discern truth from error (for those who know God’s Word and are indwelt by His Spirit). The really good news is that while evolutionary Christianity and emerging interfaith spirituality can free no one (regardless of what McLaren thinks), Jesus Christ CAN, and has made it so simple that all you need to do is believe, repent, turn from your ways, and follow him today! He will lift you out of the mud and miry clay and set your feet on the Rock where you can know the truth – and the truth will set you free.

It’s not up from the muck we ascend, but up from the grave He arose!
