God Our Mother is a new song by husband and wife musicians Michael and Lisa Gungor. According to their website…

God our Mother is part of an experimental art collective known as ‘The Liturgists.’ The contemplative music is written by Michael and Lisa Gungor in collaboration with Rachel Held Evans and Rob Bell, among others.

The Liturgists http://gungormusic.com/2014/04/the-liturgists/

About this song, they say…

Created in honor of Mother’s Day, God our Mother is a liturgy that explores both the scriptures that speak of God in a maternal context and the limits of human language in describing an infinite God.

God Our Mother includes an apophatic contemplative meditation. Apophatic disciplines seek to push beyond language and rational thinking in the context of God’s Holiness, and can be very powerful. For this reason, we recommend that spiritual practices like apophaticism are best moderated through scripture, tradition, and some form of spiritual community.

Listen to the song featuring Nichole Nordeman and Lisa Gungor, here:

Lyrics:

God our Father
Giver of daily bread

Blessing our hands and covering our heads

God our Mother

Leading us into peace

Drawing and comforting all those in need

Hallowed, hallowed be thy name

Hallowed, hallowed be thy name

Hallowed, hallowed be thy name in all the earth

On his website, Michael Gungor also tells his readers that…

“he went on a “spiritual pilgrimage” in September 2010 that incorporated a week to Italy and a week to Spain. Gungor states: ”The first week was a week of silence and meditation at a spiritual retreat that I found by googling ‘best spiritual retreats in the world.’” He said that he went on this pilgrimage because he was “on the brink” and “didn’t really know what [he] believed in.” Gungor began his journey with a trip to the Vatican where he heard the Pope speak: “not a bad way to start out my spiritual journey. Made me want to be Catholic actually.” After this, Gungor caught a flight to Assisi and on the flight he ”listened to a couple Rob Bell sermons on [his] ipod.” Gungor explains that the retreat was ”a cross religious retreat, so they had statues of Mary in the room next to a Buddha next to a Hindu something or other.” Part of the week of silence included times called “prayer movements,” where participants ”slowly wav[ed] [their] arms around, turning in circles and kneeling in the grass . . . It was a lot of ‘now the river that gave us everything is taking everything back’ kind of stuff.””

Even music that is called Christian and sounds beautiful can contain a muddy spiritual message.

The Goosey Loosey Green Fun Fair, other wise known as the Wild Goose Festival, is shaping up to be quite a muddy mixture of spiritual swamp water, as previously mentioned. Some recommended new reading can be found over at Apprising Ministries, where further research reveals more evidence of the spiritually toxic quicksand that this festival is based upon (see THE EMERGING CHURCH ON A WILD GOOSE CHASE).

The ‘Wild Goose’ is said to be a Celtic metaphor for the holy spirit, although not to be confused with THE Holy Spirit, who in the Bible is represented by the dove. This ‘goose spirit’ is characteristically wild and unpredictable, flighty and feminine, not to mention a bit loosey goosey and accepting of all unholiness and ungodliness as long as it’s ‘spiritual.’ This is why it’s not a surprise that this festival is open to all regardless of belief, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, denomination or religious affiliation (wildgoosefestival.org). The emergent line up of speakers reveals what kind of Mother Goose spirituality this is all about, but now let us look briefly at who else might be following this wild goose chase…

Besides these and some very liberal church denominations, also chasing the wild goose are the Aboriginal Peacemakers, the Preaching Peace pacifists, the Young Anabaptist Radicals, the Center for Spiritual Resources (an initiative of the Cathedral of All Souls & the Diocese of Western North Carolina), and Transform, a trans-denominational missional community formation network in the Northwest.

There is no doubt that those chasing this goose will be led across the wide bridge of inclusive spirituality that leads not to the the Truth. All those who promote and chase after this loose goose must be avoided by those few who wish to enter by the narrow gate that leads to life. We have been forewarned by Jesus Christ Himself…

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

-Matthew 7

The Shack author’s mother reassured about novel’s theology by minister of pro-gay church

Out of all the amazing things that occurred during Stories From The Shack, the live stage spectacle held on Mother’s Day, nothing hit harder than Paul Young’s story about his mother and Harold Munn, the recently retired Rector of St. John The Divine Anglican Church.

The evening to this point had been a frenetic mix of aerial display, choreography, music, art, and speeches about The Shack by author Paul Young and others. Radio personality Delilah told the audience the novel “has showed us God in a way we’ve never seen before.”

The Shack author: No criticism from “helping” community of psychology, spiritual formations, Twelve Step programs…

In an interview with Christian Telegraph, Paul Young mentioned some of the groups or practices that have not opposed the theology of The Shack. He states:

“From the ‘helping’ community, those who actually work in the arenas of healing with real people, whether psychology, spiritual formations, [twelve] step programs, psychiatry, pastoral care etc, I have yet to receive one negative comment or review. What matters to these ‘healers’ is that something ‘actually works’ and is of value and aid to those they care for and treasure. Criticisms have come almost exclusively from ‘religious’ folk and I am not intending the term in a pejorative sense. Of course there are those who have taken position without having read the book for themselves, thereby discounting their right to even pretend an opinion, but there are others who truly feel the weight of responsibility to protect the ‘flock of the faithful’ and defend God against the intrusion of heresy or ‘seductive doctrines’. While the intention is honorable, it is a sad fact that among us religious folk it has always been easier to be right than to love.” [1]

Global Warming Summit in Cancun Opens with Prayer to Pagan Goddess Ixchel

By Ken Shepherd | December 02, 2010 | 15:55

During a congressional hearing in March 2009, manmade global warming skeptic Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.) referred to God’s promise in the the book of Genesis to never again flood the entire Earth as one reason why he is dismissive of global warming alarmists.

“The earth will end only when God declares its time to be over. Man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood,” Shimkus insisted, after quoting from Genesis 8:22.
